Frequently Asked Questions
- Why don't you cut your losses and quit the project now, instead of throwing good money after bad?
- How could you spend that much money on a Cobalt?
- How long will the fund raiser go on for?
- Why is there no option to pay in Canadian funds, for Canadian donators?
- What are your plans with the money that is raised?
This is a question that I have been asked almost as often as "how could you spend that much money on a Cobalt?"
This car has always had a bigger purpose than just being a car that drives to the race track and then races on that track.
It is because of that purpose that I have tried to keep making the best out of a bad situation. At the same time as the car having a purpose, there has been a huge following of this project within the Cobalt community (forums) and whenever I was ready to consider giving up, they would come along side me and encourage me to 'stay the course'.

The original plan was never to spend 'this much' money on a Cobalt. The project was supposed to be finished for a portion of the money already spent.
To make matters worse was the fact that I had never embarked on a project like this before and I had to trust the companies who represented themselves as 'professionals'. Unfortunately much of my trust was misplaced and I learnt the hard way that not everyone is a 'professional' performance shop just because they could afford a sign to say they are.

At this time I have no definite answer to this question.
We are a long way from reaching the end of this project and there is no way to predict how successful this fund raiser will be.

PayPal does not give me that option. Considering that most of the donators to date are from the US, this was the preferred currency. This also allows me to reduce the amount of exchange rate fees paid, when buying parts/services from the US.
For Canadians who wish to donate, it is totally reasonable to donate an amount equal to what you wanted to give in Canadain funds.
Sorry for any confusion this may have brought about.

The money collected sits in PayPal until a payment is needed in US funds.
At this time all donations plus payments for Cobalt parts sold are earmarked to be paid to the US engine builder. That way I will not have to deal with the exchange rate when I spend the money donated. The less money spent on exchange rates means more money spent directly on the project.
Obviously I won't get away without having to pay some exchange rates, I am just going to put every penny donated straight into the project.
